It is an Afro
Caribbean origin population, seated in the outlet of Rio
Dulce toward the Caribbean Sea. The Amatique Bay gave
refuge to the Garifuna who fought for their freedom against
Englishmen and arrived at San Vicente's island in 1797,
for the year 1805 they inhabited the Buga establishment
better known today as Livingston.

Entering
by the Izabal Lake from Puerto Barrios or Rio Dulce, by “ferry”
or in private boats, Holy Week, with Passion of Christ (live),
San Isidro Labrador celebrations (November 26), and the Virgin
Guadalupe celebrations (December 12) constitute magnificent opportunities
to appreciate the folklore of the Garifuna population of the place.
In Livingston you can walk 6 Km along the beach and enjoy the
Caribbean Sea, you can also visit the waterfalls The 7 Altares",
beach sports, fishing sport are some of the activities that you
can carry out in the Guatemalan Caribbean coast.
