Rio Dulce
 

Rio Dulce is located to the south of Puerto Barrios, in the department of Izabal, Guatemala. There are beautiful beaches and exotic places that offer the visitor an ideal paradise to enjoy unforgettable vacations.

It is the perfect place to fish, to dive, to ski and to practice all type of aquatic sports. It also counts with archaeological centres and places to get in contact with the nature.

Rio Dulce is the door to the Caribbean Sea. It is born in the Izabal Lake, which has an extension of 590 kilometres. Rio Dulce, considered the largest river in Guatemala with approximately 30 miles long.

Following its basin, the river is narrowed and goes by the cities of Fronteras and Relleno, and later crosses through a spectacular sharp ravine covered by a thick vegetation and fauna of the forest.

From this point, the river has an extension known as El Golfete, where the Manatee reserve is located, better known as the Biotopo Chocón Machacas.

During the whole journey, the river is the paradisiacal scenario with dense tropical vegetation inhabited by a great variety of exotic animals.

At the end, it empties in the Amatique Bay in the Garifuna City of Livingston.
