Antigua Guatemala

The first Guatemalan capital was in Iximché, established on July 25th. 1554, by Don Pedro de Alvarado who was sent by Hernán Cortés from Mexico to conquer Guatemala in December 1553.

This city was named Santiago de los Caballeros and it was declared by the UNESCO in July 1965 a World Cultural Heritage.

Antigua Guatemala was once the third most important Spanish colony in the Americas.

More than 30 monastic orders called Antigua home and built stunning monasteries, convents and cathedrals in the town. Antigua is located in a valley (1,500.mts) at the bottom of the spectacular Volcan de Agua (3,765mts high).

Neighboring cities and villages are Ciudad Vieja, Jocotenango, El Obispo, Santa María de Jesus, San Bartolomé Milpas Altas and Santa Catalina Barahona.

ANTIGUA GUATEMALA full day tour

Visiting Central Plaza, Palacio De Los Capitanes Generales, Cathedral, Capuchinas Convent, Handicraft Market, and a visit to a world's leading Jade Factory.

In the afternoon short visit to the village of Ciudad Vieja. If time allows we will visit the Macadamia Nut Plantation.
