Chichicastenango

Every Thursday and Sunday, thousands of indigenous of the surrounding Mayan villages, dressed with their magnificent attire.

They come to market their products and to celebrate their religious ceremonies, partly Christian, partly autochthonous, outside the Santo Tomas Church, dating from the XVI century (1540).

In their convent was found the "Popol Vuh", sacred book of the Quiches. Another interesting attraction is the Cerro Turcaj, where the Dios Mundo is worshipped a deity of stone called Pascual Abaj.

Chichicastenango is one of the few towns where you can appreciate the real meaning of the religious faith of the natives; a faith passed to them from their Mayan ancestors.
