Discovering Maya cities one day I had the great experience of visiting El Mirador. I clearly remember that day. We got there at 8:45 am. The helicopter took off at 9:00am.

Cancuen is located southwest of Peten at the end of the Pasión River in the municipality of Sayaché. Its name means "Land of snakes" and was the center of trade between the lowlands and highlands.

The ancient city of Nakum (stone-house) is located on the eastern side of El Petén, some 54 miles away from Flores.  There are two ways to get there only: on foot, 4 hours of trekking or by car, a 4wd vehicle is required for such expedition.

"At Zotz [bats] are all around you and you can feel the wind from their wings as they fly by on millimeters away, sometimes, while walking we would even brush into them. We slept in hammocks, the food was excellent, and the guides were so fun and understanding."

Uaxactun is the most important astronomical center of the Maya, it´s also the community where live Chicleros men, they live in the area for over 100 years.
