The ancient city of Nakum (stone-house) is located on the eastern side of El Petén, some 54 miles away from Flores.  There are two ways to get there only: on foot, 4 hours of trekking or by car, a 4wd vehicle is required for such expedition. The city itself makes you feel like the city is still inhabited due to its architectural style. Is got one of the largest palaces yet restored. Among the most beautiful structures we can admire the palace-temple structures and a steam-bath building. Somehow the city remained neutral by the time most Maya kingdoms fought against each other.  But, the highlight of the city is a building known as “The Church” it is one of the few “true arch structures buildings ever excavated”.  The Holmul River is still there as a witness of the commerce that made Nakum this prosperous anciently.

Yaxha is the most picturesque ancient cities yet discovered. It is surrounded by two lakes: Yaxha and Sacnab.   Over 30 structures have been restored, including the North Acropolis with the Oxte-tun style (three pyramids), the South Acropolis and the 216 temples among many others. This is one of the few places where you can still climb on the actual steps on several pyramids. Nature in here is unique.
